NJ author Jodi Pavlock participates in Liberty States Fiction Writers 14^th Annual Conference Book Fair on April 5

Jekyll Can’t Hyde depicts the travails and survival of a narcissistic relationship

Robbinsville, NJ — Jodi Pavlock, a model, real estate investor, and former bus driver from Bergen County, New Jersey, presents a riveting examination of the mental anguish and abuse suffered throughout a relationship with a narcissist. Released in December 2024, Jekyll Can’t Hyde is garnering praise among readers for its gritty storytelling and Pavlock’s bravery in the face of a doomed relationship. Her book is a roadmap to happiness for others suffering in abusive relationships. Pavlock shares some of her personal experiences combined with the difficulties of healing after the storm.  At recent book signing, readers shared their personal experiences in toxic relationships with Pavlock, who inspired some to make a change and stand up for themselves. Pavlock’s story is a journey to help women build the strength to leave bad relationships, especially when gas-lighting and lies are the foundation. Pavlock’s journal inspired her to write her own happy ending.

“It’s been wonderful meeting the people who read my book. Some of them have escaped and survived a toxic relationship with a narcissist. Some have been stuck in a bad place, so I’ve shared my story with them,” Pavlock said, “My goal is to tell all women to save themselves and get out. They are stronger than they think, and they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. There is a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dark it seems now.”

Pavlock’s book is loosely based on her romantic relationships over the years and earlier this year, she decided it was time to help other women. She based Jekyll Can’t Hyde on her journal entries. She was determined to release the book as soon as possible, so Pavlock decided to self-publish the book, which also gave her more creative control.

“I have discovered an epidemic of narcissistic relationships, and I want to bring clarity and hope to those in that particular situation,” Pavlock said.  “Unless you are a survivor of narcissistic abuse, you have no idea what it means to fight daily battles in your head with a person you no longer have contact with. Verbal, emotional and physical abuse has a residual effect on a survivor. You just don’t get over it.”

Pavlock’s book delves into topics like trauma bonds, gaslighting, self-blame, triggers, and many important issues involving relationships. Readers of early drafts of the book can empathize with Pavlock’s autobiography and many have contacted her on social media with their similar stories.

Pavlock will be touring bookstores in the upcoming months in New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania and Nevada, and said, “I am excited to meet my readers in person.”

Congratulations to Liberty States Fiction Writers Member David Manfre whose short story “First Contact” was published in the The Neurodiversiverse: Alien Encounters anthology. Is Writer’s Block normal? Fact: it is! Many writers encounter moments where they feel as if they can’t find the next word to put on the page. What can you do about that? Get up and away from your desk for some fresh air. Read a good book. Listen to music. Watch a movie. Break from your normal routine. If you normally write on a computer, pull out a pen and pad of paper. See what happens. The most important thing to remember about Writer’s Block is that you can’t edit a blank page. Sit down and write, even if you think it’s not any good. In time, the words will come.
